Malus x purpurea or the Flowering Crab Apple is a deciduous tree with an open, erect habit and dark green lobed leaves that are tinged with purple when young, as are the stems. Pretty purple-pink flowers emerge from pinkish-red buds in springtime and are followed by dark red crab apple fruits that look like cherries.
