Rio Red Grapefruit is a fantastic evergreen citrus tree producing large, round fruit with attractive yellow skin and beautiful deep pink to ruby-red flesh.

Renowned for its deliciously juicy, sweet-tart flavour and relatively low bitterness, Rio Red is a popular grapefruit variety, perfect for fresh eating, juicing and breakfast.

Its glossy green foliage, fragrant white blossoms and colourful fruit make it a wonderful addition to home orchards and edible gardens.

Growing Information

Height: Approximately 3–5 metres, depending on rootstock and pruning

Width: Approximately 3–4 metres

Position: Full sun, ideally 6–8 hours daily

Soil: Fertile, well-drained soil

Watering: Water regularly, particularly during flowering, fruit development and hot weather

Flowering: Mainly spring, with fragrant white blossoms

Harvest: Generally winter to spring in Perth, depending on conditions

Fruit: Large, juicy grapefruit with deep pink to ruby-red flesh

Fertiliser: Apply a quality citrus fertiliser during the growing season

Pruning: Lightly prune to maintain shape and remove dead or crossing branches
